The Wangetti Trail: Stage One Now Open
**SELF GUIDED TOUR ONLY**
The first segment of the Wangetti Trail, stretching from Palm Cove to Ellis Beach, is officially open. This new 7.8-kilometre path is ideal for both hiking and experienced mountain bikers, those that enjoy cross country riding.
Trail Highlights

The Trail meanders through Macalister Range National Park and the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area.

It traverses a culturally significant area, following ancient routes used by the Djabuganydji, Yirrganydji, Nyagali, Buluwanydji, and Guluy peoples. These traditional walking tracks connected communities for trade, celebration, and cultural practices.
Trail Details

The journey begins with 1,300 meters of local multi-use pathways, leading from our Palm Cove store on the Esplanade through the streets and across the Captain Cook Highway.

After this, users will head north, where the Trail ascends over the next 2.5 kilometres, winding through lush rainforest before reaching the peak of the range. From the ridge, you can enjoy stunning views of the coastline.

As the Trail descends, you'll experience a delightful change of pace with twists and turns down the range.

Along the way, you will cross gullies and creeks that flow rapidly during and after the wet season.
Finally, this segment of the Trail concludes along the Ellis Beach foreshore, renowned for its pristine sandy beach and coastal charm, making it an ideal spot to unwind.
Enjoy a cool drink and meal at the Ellis Beach Bar and Grill before making your way back to the Palm Cove.
